Where to Rent a Luxury Villa in Marbella: Areas, Prices & Tips

The best places to rent a luxury villa in Marbella are the Golden Mile, for beaches and an easy walk or short drive into town; Nueva Andalucía, for golf and Puerto Banús; Sierra Blanca, for gated privacy with sea views; and Benahavís, for space, seclusion and the mountains. Choose the area by how you want to spend your days, then the house — and before you book, confirm the villa's tourist licence, the deposit and the cancellation terms in writing.

Where can you rent a luxury villa in Marbella?

Marbella sits on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia, between the Sierra Blanca mountains and the Mediterranean. Private villas are found along the whole stretch of coast, from the quieter east of the town to Puerto Banús, San Pedro de Alcántara and the hills behind them. Most high-end rentals are offered through specialist villa agencies and property managers rather than hotels, and many of the finest houses are never advertised widely.

Because the area is spread out, the location of a villa shapes your stay more than almost any other detail. A house ten minutes from the beach and a house twenty minutes up a mountain road can offer very different holidays, even at a similar standard.

Which areas of Marbella are best for a luxury villa holiday?

The Golden Mile

The Golden Mile — la Milla de Oro — runs west from the centre of Marbella towards Puerto Banús. It is the address most associated with Marbella's glamour, with beachfront estates, landmark hotels and some of the area's best-known restaurants and beach clubs close at hand.

Choose the Golden Mile if you want to be near the sea and within easy reach of both the old town and Puerto Banús. Villas on the beach side offer direct access to the promenade; those on the mountain side of the main road tend to be larger, with gardens and views.

Nueva Andalucía

Set just behind Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía is known as the "Golf Valley" for the courses that surround it. It suits golfers, families and groups who want restaurants and nightlife nearby, with a more residential, green setting than the coast itself.

Villas here range from contemporary houses overlooking the fairways to traditional Andalusian homes. Puerto Banús, its marina and its beach clubs are usually a short drive away.

Sierra Blanca

Sierra Blanca is a gated residential area on the slopes above the Golden Mile, beneath the mountain of La Concha. It is one of Marbella's most private addresses, with large modern villas, panoramic sea views and controlled access, yet it remains only minutes from the centre of town.

It is a natural choice for guests who value discretion and security, and for those who want views without being far from the coast.

Benahavís

Benahavís is a separate municipality in the hills inland from Puerto Banús and San Pedro. Its village is known for its restaurants, and its surroundings include some of the most exclusive gated estates on the Costa del Sol. Villas here tend to offer more land, more privacy and a greater sense of seclusion.

The trade-off is distance: beaches and Puerto Banús are a drive away, and some estates lie along winding mountain roads. A car — or a chauffeur — becomes part of everyday life.

Other areas worth considering

East Marbella, around areas such as Los Monteros and Elviria, offers beachside villas with a calmer, more residential feel. To the west, Guadalmina and San Pedro de Alcántara combine golf, beaches and a relaxed local atmosphere, and Estepona is a little further along the coast.

How much does a luxury villa in Marbella cost?

There is no single price for a luxury villa in Marbella. Rates are set by each owner or agency and change with the season, the length of stay and demand, so the only reliable figure is a quote for your dates. What you can do is understand what drives the price.

What affects luxury villa rental prices

  • Season. July and August are the most sought-after months, along with holiday periods such as Easter. Spring and autumn usually offer more choice and more flexibility.
  • Location. Beachfront houses, sea views and prestigious gated areas command a premium.
  • Size and capacity. The number of bedrooms, the size of the plot and the number of guests allowed all matter.
  • Facilities. Heated pools, cinema rooms, gyms, spas, tennis courts and staff accommodation add to the rate.
  • Length of stay. Many villas set a minimum stay in high season, often a full week, and changeover days can be fixed.
  • Services. Daily housekeeping, a private chef, a villa manager or security may be included, optional or charged separately.

When comparing quotes, check whether taxes, final cleaning, linen changes, utilities such as pool heating or air conditioning, and any service charges are included. Two villas with a similar headline price can end up costing quite differently once these are added.

What should you check before booking a villa in Spain?

A luxury villa is a significant booking. A few checks before you pay protect both your money and your holiday.

The tourist licence

Holiday rentals in Andalusia must be registered with the regional tourism authority, and a legitimate villa should be able to show its registration number. Spain has also introduced a national registration system for short-term rentals. Ask for the number before you book; a reputable agency or owner will provide it without hesitation.

The contract and the company behind it

Make sure you receive a written rental agreement that names the property, the dates, the number of guests, the total price and what it includes. Check who you are contracting with and pay through traceable methods. Be cautious of offers that seem unusually cheap, or of requests to pay by bank transfer to a private account at short notice.

Deposits and payment schedule

Most villas ask for an initial payment to confirm the booking, with the balance due some weeks before arrival. A separate security or damage deposit is also common, either held on a card or paid in advance and refunded after departure. Ask how much it is, how it is taken and when it is returned.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation terms vary widely, from flexible to non-refundable. Read them carefully, note the dates at which refunds change, and consider travel insurance that covers your accommodation costs.

House rules and guest registration

Check the maximum number of guests, whether events or parties are allowed, any rules on noise, and arrival and departure times. In Spain, accommodation providers are required to register guest details with the authorities, so you will usually be asked for identity documents for everyone staying.

The practical details

Ask about the distance to the beach and to the nearest shops, whether the pool is heated, how the villa is reached by car, whether the garden and pool are fenced if you are travelling with children, and who to call if something goes wrong during your stay.

Can you arrange a private chef, chauffeur and yacht for your stay?

Yes. Many guests in Marbella plan their stay around the villa and add services to it:

  • A private chef for relaxed breakfasts, a long lunch by the pool or a formal dinner at home.
  • A chauffeur for airport transfers from Málaga, evenings in Puerto Banús and days out to Ronda or the white villages.
  • A luxury car delivered to the villa for days on the coast road — see our guide to luxury car rental in Marbella.
  • A private yacht from Puerto Banús or one of the nearby marinas — see our guide to yacht charter in Marbella.
  • Housekeeping, childcare, in-villa wellness treatments and restaurant reservations, arranged around your plans.

Coordinating these yourself means speaking to several providers, each with their own terms. A concierge brings them together around a single set of dates and preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best area of Marbella for a luxury villa?

It depends on your plans. The Golden Mile suits guests who want beaches and town nearby, Nueva Andalucía suits golfers and families, Sierra Blanca offers gated privacy with views, and Benahavís offers the most space and seclusion.

How far in advance should you book a villa in Marbella?

For July and August, it is wise to book several months ahead, as the most sought-after villas are reserved early. Outside the peak summer months there is usually more choice at shorter notice.

Is there a minimum stay for villas in Marbella?

Many luxury villas require a minimum stay in high season, often a week, and may have fixed changeover days. Shorter stays are more often possible in spring, autumn and winter.

Is a security deposit normal for villa rentals in Spain?

Yes. A refundable security deposit is standard for luxury villas. Ask for the amount, how it will be held and when it will be returned before you book.

Do you need a car when staying in a Marbella villa?

Often, yes. Many villas are in the hills or gated areas away from the beach. A rental car or a chauffeur makes it much easier to reach restaurants, beaches and golf courses.

Can ZUNO arrange a villa together with a car and a yacht?

Yes. ZUNO can coordinate the villa, a car or chauffeur, a yacht charter and other services for the same stay, so everything is arranged around one set of plans.
