Yacht Charter in Marbella: Prices, Yachts & Booking Guide

A private yacht anchored in a turquoise Mediterranean cove

A private yacht charter in Marbella can be as short as a two-hour sunset cruise or as long as a week along the coast, and almost all leave from Puerto Banús or one of the marinas nearby. Most charters are crewed, so a captain takes care of the yacht while you enjoy the day. The price depends on the size of the yacht, the length of the charter and the season, and fuel, food and drinks are not always included — so ask for a written quote that shows exactly what you will pay.

Where can you book a yacht charter on the Costa del Sol?

Puerto Banús is the best-known departure point for yacht charters in Marbella, and its marina is home to many private and charter yachts. Other departures along the coast include the Marbella marina close to the old town, La Bajadilla, Estepona, Benalmádena and Sotogrande to the west. Which port you leave from usually depends on where the yacht is based, although many charters can arrange to collect guests nearby.

Charters are offered through yacht brokers, charter companies and, in some cases, directly by owners. A broker or concierge can compare yachts across several marinas, which is helpful when you have particular dates, a large group or specific requirements.

What kinds of yacht charter are there?

Short cruises

Two to four hours on the water is the simplest way to see the coast from the sea. A sunset cruise from Puerto Banús, with drinks on deck as the light fades over the mountains, is one of the most popular ways to begin an evening in Marbella.

Half-day and full-day charters

A half day allows time to anchor, swim and enjoy lunch on board. A full day opens up more of the coastline, a long lunch at anchor and time for water activities. This is the most popular choice for families, celebrations and groups staying in a villa.

Multi-day charters

Longer charters turn the yacht into your accommodation. From Marbella, itineraries may include other ports along the Costa del Sol and, depending on the yacht and the conditions, further along the Andalusian coast. Multi-day charters on larger yachts typically include a full crew, with cabins, a chef and service throughout.

Motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans

Motor yachts are the most common choice for day charters, offering speed, shade and space on deck. Sailing yachts suit guests who enjoy the experience of sailing itself, and catamarans offer stability and generous deck space, which many families appreciate.

How much does it cost to rent a private yacht in Marbella?

Private yacht charter prices in Marbella vary widely and are set by each owner or charter company, so the only reliable figure is a quote for your date, group and yacht. These are the main factors that shape the price:

  • Size and type of yacht. Larger and newer yachts, and those with more crew and facilities, cost more.
  • Length of charter. Rates are usually quoted by the hour, half day, full day or week, and some yachts set a minimum in high season.
  • Season. July and August are the busiest months, with the strongest demand for weekends and holiday dates.
  • Fuel. On motor yachts, fuel can be a significant part of the cost and is not always included, especially on longer itineraries.
  • Crew and catering. Some charters include a captain only; others include a hostess, a chef and full catering.
  • Taxes and port fees. Check whether VAT and any marina or mooring charges are included in the price you are quoted.

What is included in a private yacht charter?

Every charter is different, so always confirm in writing. As a general guide:

Often included: the yacht, the captain and crew, basic insurance, soft drinks and water, towels and the use of onboard equipment such as snorkelling gear or a paddleboard.

Often extra: fuel on motor yachts, food and alcoholic drinks, a private chef, water toys such as jet skis or seabobs, transfers to the marina, mooring fees in other ports and a gratuity for the crew.

On longer charters in the Mediterranean, many yachts quote a base charter fee plus an advance provisioning allowance — a sum paid in advance to cover running costs such as fuel, food, drinks and port fees, with any unused amount returned at the end. If the quote mentions it, ask how it will be reconciled.

How many guests can a luxury yacht accommodate?

The number of guests a yacht may carry is set by its licence and safety certification, not by the space on deck, and a reputable operator will never exceed it. Day-charter yachts in Marbella range from intimate boats for a couple or a small family to larger yachts that can welcome bigger groups. For overnight stays, the number is limited by the cabins, and many large charter yachts carry a maximum of twelve guests overnight.

Tell the charter company the exact number of guests, including children, and mention if you are planning a celebration or event on board.

Planning your charter

Itinerary

On a day charter, the captain will suggest an itinerary based on the conditions: cruising along the Golden Mile, anchoring off a quiet stretch of beach, or heading east or west along the coast. Dolphins are sometimes seen in these waters, although sightings can never be promised.

Weather and wind

The Costa del Sol enjoys a long season, with the most reliable conditions from late spring to early autumn. The coast is influenced by winds funnelled through the Strait of Gibraltar — the easterly Levante and the westerly Poniente — which can make the sea choppy on some days. The captain always has the final word on safety, so ask what happens if a charter has to be moved or cancelled because of the weather.

Catering and onboard experiences

Catering can range from a light lunch and fresh fruit to a full menu prepared by a chef on board. Many charters can also arrange a celebration cake, flowers, a particular wine or champagne, music or a photographer. Mention dietary requirements and allergies at the time of booking.

Water activities

Swimming from the yacht is part of the pleasure. Depending on the yacht, you may also have snorkelling equipment, paddleboards, an inflatable platform or tender, and more powerful water toys at an additional cost. Some water activities require specific licences or local permissions, which the charter company should arrange.

Booking tips

  • Book early for summer, especially for weekends and larger yachts.
  • Confirm the departure port and how you will get there, and allow for traffic in Puerto Banús in high season.
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, swimwear and a light layer for the evening. Soft-soled shoes or bare feet are the norm on deck.
  • Ask about the cancellation policy and what happens in bad weather.

Can you arrange a yacht, villa and supercar through one concierge?

Yes. A yacht day is often part of a longer stay, and arranging everything through one concierge means a single point of contact and one plan that fits together. A chauffeur can take you from your villa to the marina, a car can be waiting when you return, and a chef can prepare dinner at the villa that evening. What luxury experiences can you book in Marbella and Ibiza?

Marbella and Ibiza share many of the experiences that define a Mediterranean summer: private villas, yacht charters, luxury cars, private chefs, beach club and restaurant reservations, and wellness treatments at your villa. Marbella adds golf, the white villages and the mountains, while Ibiza is known for its coves, its sunsets and its beach clubs. The two are a short flight apart, so some guests combine both in one trip.

Frequently asked questions

Where do yacht charters in Marbella depart from?

Most leave from Puerto Banús. Other departure points include the Marbella marina near the old town, La Bajadilla, Estepona, Benalmádena and Sotogrande.

Do I need a licence to charter a yacht in Marbella?

Not for a crewed charter. The captain holds the necessary qualifications, and you simply enjoy the day. Renting a boat to skipper yourself requires the appropriate licence.

Is fuel included in a yacht charter?

Sometimes. It is often included on short cruises and day charters with a set itinerary, but on longer charters and larger motor yachts fuel is frequently charged separately. Check your quote.

Can we bring our own food and drinks on board?

Policies vary. Some yachts welcome it, others prefer to provide catering or charge a fee. Ask when you book.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The captain decides whether it is safe to sail. If a charter cannot go ahead because of the weather, it is usually rescheduled or refunded according to the charter terms, so check those before you book.

When is the best time for a yacht charter in Marbella?

Late spring to early autumn offers the warmest water and the most settled conditions, with July and August the busiest months. June and September are often a pleasant balance of good weather and availability.
